Life story

Joseph J. Czach, Jr. of Newfane, NY, passed away June 22, 2020 at Eastern Niagara Hospital. Born November 30, 1942 in North Tonawanda, he was the son of Joseph J. Sr. and Monica (Wisniewski) Czach.

Joe initially trained as a barber but early on decided it was not his calling and went on to work at Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors retiring there in 1993. He had a strong work ethic, working different jobs after his retirement from GM until his health no longer allowed it.

Joe loved sports. As a young person he loved the competitiveness of baseball and football. It was a well-worn story about how he caught a Little League baseball world series qualifying game, during the middle of which he was injured but played through, and was later diagnosed to have a broken arm. He was also proud of being part of an undefeated Newfane Panthers football team, the only undefeated team for decades following.

As an adult, his love of sports was both filled with activity and being a spectator. He was an active softball player and a regular bowler for many years until an auto accident in which he was a passenger left him with shoulder and knee injuries which prevented him from continuing to compete. When his health no longer allowed this activity he became an even stronger sports fan, and to his oldest son’s chagrin, a twenty-year fan of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter his entire life and bemoaned how his declining health in later years prevented him from enjoying these as much as he loved.

Joe is survived by his children, Joseph B. (Selene) Czach of Lockport, NY; Tiffany (Richard) Nelson of Acworth, GA, Richie Czach of Los Angeles, CA, Paula (Oscar) Kish of N. Fort Myers, FL, and Michael Czach of Newfane, NY; his grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher Nelson and Cristina, Thomas, Monica, Timothy, James, and Nicole Czach; predeceased by his parents and sisters, Florence and Dorothy; also survived by nieces, Delphine, Arlene, and Lorraine.

A memorial service will be announced later after additional COVID-19 restrictions are lifted at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements are under the direction of Michael R. Goodlander, OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME.  Share condolences on Joe’s tribute page at GOODLANDERCARES.com
